Virginia may not be the first state you think of when you hear the words “trendy” or “bustling”, however, its proximity to the nation’s capital and the incredibly diverse food options make Northern Virginia an attractive destination for lunch and dinner for both the locals as well as workers from Washington D.C. Read further to find out the top 3 most popular, up-and-coming eateries in NoVa for this month.

Cava Mezze Grill (11046 Lee Hwy, Fairfax, VA 22030)

This restaurant offers build-your-own Greek pitas, bowls or salads in a counter-service space with an industrial vibe. Since opening its doors in Washington D.C in 2006, Cava Grill received popularity among the locals and have expanded into Virginia, Maryland, and New York. Recently, they successfully acquired $16 million investment to expand to the West Coast as well. This local chain restaurant focuses heavily on using the freshest produce and ingredients by partnering with local farms. There are only 2 locations in Northern Virginia and they get packed especially during lunch time, so make sure to get there early if you don’t want to wait in line!

JINYA Ramen Bar (2911 District Ave #140, Fairfax, VA 22031)

For those of you who live in the West Coast, you may already be familiar with this particular ramen bar and are probably wondering why this is on the list of hottest eateries for Northern Virginia. This successful ramen bar recently opened a store in the new, trendy Mosaic district in Fairfax, Virginia, just outside of Washington D.C. Although NoVa offers diverse cuisine, one thing that was lacking in the area was a good Japanese ramen place. JINYA Ramen Bar was able to successfully fill this void and has become a new go-to spot for many people who crave an authentic bowl of Japanese ramen. In addition to good food, this restaurant has a trendy vibe, which makes this place a popular choice for late-night hangouts as well.

Peterson's Ice Cream Depot (7150 Main St, Clifton, VA 20124)

This window-serve spot for soft-serve and scooped ice cream with toppings, plus hot dogs and sandwiches, is a true hidden gem in Northern Virginia. Located in the Historic Town of Clifton, Peterson’s Ice Cream Depot is THE place to be if you want delicious ice cream. This family-run business is only open from the end of March to the middle of November each year. The hours of operation are noon to about an hour after sunset. If you are in the area during the times they are open, and you like ice cream (who doesn’t?), it is well worth the trip.
