Everyone loves a good sandwich and Charlottesville, VA is home to some great places to get your hoagie fix. While there are many fun and tasty lunch restaurants in this college town, these sandwich shops are quick, reasonably priced, local and delicious.

Feast! (Inside Main Street Market on Main Street)

Feast is an artisanal, upscale local grocery and wine store that features about 8-10 free daily samples of locally made cheeses, meats, and candy treats as well as a delicious café, which serves some of the best paninis in town. Favorites include the turkey, Brie and cranberry panini, the chicken, cheddar and fig panini, and the Margherita panini. The place is reasonably priced, kid-friendly and vegetarian-friendly. Stop in between 11:00 am and 3:00 Monday-Saturday, order your sandwich at the café window, and stroll around the store sampling the day’s treats. Once your food is called, you may either sit down at the indoor and outdoor seating area at Main Street Market or take it to go! UVA students and Charlottesville residents love Feast as a great place for casual lunch dates as well as a good spot to study or catch up on work.

Ivy Provisions (Located at 2206 Ivy Road)

New to Charlottesville, this spot has quickly become a favorite for both breakfast and lunch sandwiches. The store provides some parking, but if you go during peak lunch hours, it gets a little crowded. The service is excellent and the staff and chefs go the extra mile to ensure your sandwich is delicious and your experience is pleasant. The interior is small and minimalist, but there are several tables inside and outside that provide a decent amount of seating if you choose to eat your sandwich there. Lunch favorites at Ivy Provisions include the “Winner Winner” sandwich with roasted chicken breast, smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato and dressing and the “K.I.S.S. Caprese” sandwich with tomato, mozzarella, arugula, basil mayo and optional prosciutto. If you’re going for breakfast, try “En Fuego Wrap,” which consists of chorizo, egg, potato, pepper jack and green chile sauce in a wheat tortilla or place it safe with “The Regular, “ a traditional bacon, egg and cheddar cheese on a buttermilk biscuit. Ivy Provisions serves breakfast and lunch all day Monday-Saturday 8:00 am-8:00 pm, and Sundays from 8:00 am-4:00 pm.

Bellair Market (Located at 2401 Ivy Road)

Right down the street from Ivy Provisions is Bellair Market, which may be Charlottesvillians’ most beloved sandwich shop. Bellair is likely not somewhere you would stop unless it had been recommended to you since it is located at an ordinary gas station and from the outside does not seem like it would be anything special. However, the food inside is extraordinary. Charlottesville residents speak with pride about Bellair’s above-average sandwiches for below-average prices. Inside, there are a number of tables and two-tops, a small café that serves gourmet coffees, a deli, and a fresh food gourmet case. The sandwiches have traditional Charlottesville names such as Jefferson, Farmington, Wahoo Nation, Belmont and Crozet that remind Charlottesville residents of cherished areas of the town, the historic university, and the beautiful nearby country clubs. They also offer made-to-order sandwiches with a variety of delicious, fresh ingredients for you to choose from. Bellair is open from 6:00 am until 11:00 pm, Monday-Saturday, and 8:00 am until 9:00 pm on Sundays.
