The Pacific Northwest might be known for rain, as opposed to sun, but we have our hot days too. And when those hot days come, you're going to want to know just where to go to escape them.

It can be hard to believe that the city that always rains has the ability to reach temperatures above 100 degrees. But believe me, it's very much possible, and it's already been done numerous times this summer. These three refreshing places are perfect for helping you cool off on those scorching hot summer days.

Salt and Straw (On the corner of NW 23rd and Kearney)

Quite possibly the most famous ice cream shop in Oregon, Salt and Straw has made quite a name for itself for its unusual flavors and quality ice cream. As soon as you step inside, you're instantly hit with the smell of freshly-made waffle cones mixed with the sweet smell of ice cream. Unfortunately, it'll take you awhile to even step foot inside this ice cream shop because the line (especially on nice days) is almost always out the door and around the corner. It's no surprise why people love Salt and Straw. They have unique and innovative flavors and the ice cream is creamy and delectable. The workers are friendly, always willing to give out samples and the customers seem to always be in a good mood, even they have to wait in line. To top it off, the shop gives off a very home-y vibe, making it the perfect place to step inside to cool off on a summer day.

Ruby Jewel Scoops (On SW 12th, near the corner of 12th and Washington)

This here is another Oregon favorite ice cream shop. Their ice cream is great, but what really makes this place stand out is the ice cream sandwiches. They smack some ice cream in between two fresh cookies, and the whole thing just sort of melts in your mouth. Just like Salt and Straw, the workers are so friendly and seem excited to be there, giving off a light and joyful atmosphere. If you love ice cream and you love cookies (I know I do), then definitely check this place out.

Kure Juice Bar (Also on SW 12th, right next to Ruby Jewel Scoops)

This juice bar is one of my personal favorites all year around, but especially on hot days in the summer. It's the epitome of refreshing, with it's healthy but tasty ingredients blended together in a chilling drink. They offer juice, along with other food, but I almost always go for the smoothies. It's healthy, but still just sweet enough and will quench your thirst in the heat of the afternoon. If you'd rather have a smoothie over a milkshake and aren't super into sweets, then give this place a try!
